Maldives Police Service have begun a search operation for Moosa Inas, convicted of exploding a bomb in Sultan park in 2007, who escaped yesterday after being brought to Male' to see a doctor.
The 23-year old's picture was broadcast from television channels yesterday as a wanted criminal, a police media official said.
Mohamed Asif, assistant superintendent at the department of penitentiary and rehabilitation services (DPRS), said Inas escaped inside the ADK hospital at 11.15am, after consulting the doctor.

“He is a high security criminal,” said Asif. “He planned his escape very well.”
It was the second time that Inas escaped from prison.
On 20 March, Inas escaped from Maafushi jail with four other convicts. He was captured by police and DPRS officers while trying to board a vessel at the lagoon of Male' atoll Vilivaru.
Inas was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment in December 2007 after confessing to his involvement in the Sultan park bombing.
He told police interrogaters that it was his duty to carry out jihad (holy war).
The bomb blast, which took place in Male’ in September 2007, injured 12 tourists.
Asif said a four-member gang helped Inas escape by attacking the two security officers inside the hospital, injuring the leg of one officer.
ADK hospital and the surrounding roads of the hospital have CCTV cameras.

“At first, the group asked to free Moosa Inas, threatening with sharp objects,” he said. “They confronted the security officers when they refused to free him."

Asif added motorbikes were waiting outside the hospital to help Inas escape.
Both police and DPRS said Inas had his hands cuffed behind his back when he escaped.
