Taliban takes over abandoned US base - Asia - Al Jazeera English

US troops have pulled out from the Pech River Valley in eastern Afghanistan, leaving the area under the control of the Taliban.

Years of fighting for control of the area - a Taliban stronghold - had led to mounting casualties among US troops.

Al Jazeera's Hashem Ahelbarra has this exclusive report on the Taliban patrol unit that has taken over a base that was, until very recently, considered by the Americans as being central to their strategy.
