Al-Qaeda targets Security in Marib

About a dozen of Marib security forces were injured on Wednesday in al-Madina district during a raid on al-Qaeda militia accused of assassinating senior military officials last week, Faisal Haidar, the General Directorate of al-Madina district, Marib province, told Yemen Observer.

The clashes broke when security forces attacked the house of the main suspect, Hasan Abdullah Saleh al-Aqeeli,28, from Marib province.

“Al-Aqeeli ran away and his supporters fired against the security forces,injuring nine of them,” Haidar said.

The security forces were also unable to catch the supporters of the wanted al-Qaeda.

“Al-Aqeeli supporters were using populated places as a human shield when they attacked our soldiers, which made difficult for the security to catch them” Haidar said.

According to Haidar, al-Aqeeli with few supporters from Marib province and others neighboring provinces make up al-Qaeda militia in Marib province. “The security is now pursuing their hideouts and soon they will be brought to justice,” Haidar added.

Al-AQeeli is accused of assassinating Brigadier Mohamed Saleh al-Shaief, General Staff of 315 Brigade in Marib last Saturday, June 5th , in an ambush at Matab Athban road while al-Shaief was on a mission to the oil fields of Safer area.
