British top diplomat comes under fresh attacks by the press despite his apology for denying involvement in the CIA-led rendition flights.
The Financial Times in its editorial on the subject said that the transatlantic apologies by Foreign Secretary David Miliband "raise more questions than they answer."
The Guardian also hit out at Miliband, writing, "Embarrassment and even shame might be more appropriate words."
The Times described the admission as a "needless embarrassment for him (Miliband) and for the government."
Daily Mirror tabloid wrote that controversy around the world over US interrogation techniques and rendition flights "would taint our own government."
A US air base on the British Indian Ocean territory of Diego Garcia was used as base by the CIA planes for refueling before the aircraft carrying 9/11 attack suspects headed to the US-run detention centers.
