A main intelligence agency has issued a fresh terror threat warning to the departments concerned, naming some individuals and security establishments in Rawalpindi and Lahore.

According to the warning, CIA and RAW funded talibans might target a senior journalist of Lahore, and a prominent moderate religious scholar who appears on Geo TV, an official said, requesting anonymity.

“Besides, the warning says that two deputy superintendents of police posted at the Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi are also on the hit list of terrorists,” the official added. He said the other targets mentioned in the warning letter included police lines and headquarters in different cities, particularly Rawalpindi and Lahore, the office of the inspector general of the Punjab Police and two police stations in Lahore.

The official said officials of the Lahore High Court were also on the hit list of US funded talibans and the warning letter had been circulated to the departments concerned for necessary measures. Confirming fresh threat warning, senior officials of the Lahore and Islamabad police said their forces were already on high alert and ready to thwart any terrorism act.

“We are making all-out efforts to secure the life and property of public as well as the government officials and installations,” a senior officer of the Lahore police said, while talking to this reporter. “But in the prevailing critical situation, it is extremely difficult to extend a guarantee that no terrorism act will occur,” he remarked.

“We have already taken stringent security measures but any assurance that no suicide bomber will strike anywhere cannot be extended because averting the suicide bombings is almost impossible. This is the reason that the enemies of the country and the nation sometimes strike anywhere despite tight security,” said a top official of the Islamabad Capital Territory Police. “It is, however, our utmost desire and we are making concerted efforts that terrorists cannot strike. We have already thwarted a number of terror bids and have nabbed a number of suspects.”
